GUM Skating-Rink in the Red Square Has Opened for the 2019-2020 Season
A traditional, outdoor ice-rink in the Red Square in Moscow opened its doors to the public for the 14th time.
World-famous figure skaters, Tatiana Navka and Alina Zagitova, took part in the gala opening. Olympic champion Tatyana Navka showed a tantalising excerpt from the new show, ‘The Sleeping Beauty’. She was accompanied by Alina Zagitova and Petr Chernyshev.
The theme of the 14th season of the GUM-skating rink is the 55th anniversary of Russia’s famous children's TV show "Good Night, Little Ones!”. Those who attended the performance had chance not only to step out on the ice and skate, but also to chat and take pictures with their favourite characters from the show.
The skating-rink has been upgraded for the new season: it has been made more specious and it can now hold up to 450 people in one session! The choice of skates has been enlarged compared to previous years; more lockers and ticket-offices have been added for the comfort of guests.
Entrance to the first four morning sessions on weekdays is free for all. Once or twice a season, a free master class with the world hockey champion Alexei Yashin is held in the rink. The famous player will tell visitors about the peculiarities of hockey and show some of his favorite trick shots; it’s really a must-see!
This season, the GUM rink will also host the All-Russian Children’s Ice Hockey Tournament as well as special celebratory skate-sessions on Student’s Day, Valentine’s Day and many other events.
