- The Pushkin Memorial Museum
The museum is situated in one of the oldest and most beautiful streets of Moscow Arbat. In the XIX century, this region was home to the aristocracy. Also under the branch of the museum is the Memorial Flat of Pushkin, which is the only flat remaining where Pushkin spent a few months.
The exposition of the museum varies from oil and water-coloured portraits, rare engravings and lithographs to delicate furniture, original books and magazines of Pushkin’s epoch. The museum is one of the largest literary museums in Russia. There is material connected with the life and work of Pushkin, along with the history of literary and Pushkin studies: numerous portraits, paintings, views of cities, and historical and book illustrations, theatrical ‘Pushkiniana’, decorative arts, books, manuscripts, films and photos.
The collection of the museum is continually being expanded with valuable artistic creations. Today the collection included close to 200 000 pieces. Of those 68 000 were donated. There are over 90,000 pieces in the book collection alone.
