There is currently an exhibition on the history of the death penalty in Russia. The exhibition is located at the State Museum of the Political History of Russia, and is running until December 31st. The display features famous accounts of the death penalty in Russia and also highlights pros and cons of the ultimate punishment.

The Rostral Columns, located on Vasilevsky Island on opposite sides of the stock exchange, are examples of Greek revival architecture erected in 1811. The columns are an important landmark on the Neva River in St. Petersburg.

St. Petersburg and Moscow, along with the Golden Ring cities, get all the glory, but there are some other great historical places to see when you visit Russia. One of my favorites is Pskov, only a few hours bus ride from St. Petersburg. My favorite attraction in Pskov is the Kremlin, it is a work of art in the realm of medieval forts.
